Just a quick question (since I am new here), when you issue updates to templates that have been previously purchased, do we have to pay again to get the upated version or just click on the download button for that template under our account area & it automatically downloads the updates?

You don't heed to pay again, you have just click on the download button.
Your license grants you access to download the item/design for a period of 365 days after the date of purchase.

I have now renewed my licence and just purchased it for this template under the original account of my purchase of this template, ChookAU.
Can you please assist me now with the following:
I can see that an update has been made to this template that will most likely fix this Contact Form issue (my site has also slowed down considerably due to CSS & JavaScript) which I am also hoping will be fixed by the update but I do not know how to get it.
How do I receive the update and also, will updating this template change my current website?
Please assist as soon as possible.

Sorry - just realised I believe I need to download the zipped file and then proceed as listed in the How - To section, am I correct?

There are a lot of changes done by you or your developer on your website, our suggestion is to perform backup before any changes.
Currently you have template version 4.0.0, since the version 4.0.0 there were 5 updates, you have to replace updated files accordingly to release log: https://www.astemplates.com/joomla-template-news/117-002036
Please do not forget about backup in case if you or your developer made any changes in the updated files.

Hello,
I have paid for my template less than a year ago (which I can prove with my invoice and emails from the 04/08/2017) and I have already lost access to the template downloads which I believe you would agree is unethical.
I understand that I can purchase it again at a discounted price but am unable to as I have nothing under my purchased items.
Is there another way to do this?

Your purchased items you can find under your account ChookAU -> Purchased items page, the expiration date for the template 002036 is 3rd August 2018, after this date you will be able to purchase it with 25% discount.
