My website is running this template AS2022. The current version is 6.0.1 date 2011-07-27. I want to upgrade to the newest version so I can upgrade my site using php 7.2 or later. What do I need to to besides buying the new template ?

Yes I have already done that. Do I install the template over the old one from the joomla extensions in the backend of the site, or are there update patches ?

Hello INGVARM,
Unfortunately Joomla does not have an option to install the template over the existing one, the template should be updated by rewriting all files via FTP or only the changed files, the list of all updated files you can preview here: https://www.astemplates.com/joomla-template-news/55-002022
Please do not forget about backup before performing any update.

I have joomla version 3.6.16 and have overwritten all template files and installed the extensions except
If I try to let it run on php7.3 I get this error and nothing else shown on the site:
"Warning: session_start(): Failed to read session data: user (path: ) in /home/viz/public_html/libraries/joomla/session/handler/native.php on line 260
Error: Failed to start application: Failed to start the session"
If I try to let it run on php7.4 I get this error:
"Warning: "continue" targeting switch is equivalent to "break". Did you mean to use "continue 2"? in /home/viz/public_html/modules/mod_as_menu/helper.php on line 75"
